Our volunteers

Some of our volunteersWe want to give a very heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part in the Time to Change roadshows this summer whether as a volunteer, or supportive passer-by.

Thanks to all the support, the roadshows were a great success, and we couldn’t have done it without all the amazing volunteers, who got the public talking by speaking out about their own experiences.  With their help, we exceeded our targets and had a total of 23 500 conversations with the public about mental health! This has massively contributed to Time to Change’s aim - to stamp out the stigma and discrimination faced by people with mental health problems.

Our volunteers were all ages, and came from all different backgrounds. This is what they had to say about their experiences…

"The most rewarding weekend I've had in a long time.Volunteer Jane from Cambridge"
Jane, Cambridge

"It was a privilege to talk to people about mental health and hear their responses. It helped me to feel good and I like to think it might have helped them too."
Fiona, Cambridge

"The best moments for me personally were when the people that I was speaking with actually began to speak about either their own personal experiences of mental health challenges or about their friends/family who had experiences this. The fact that they felt comfortable with me and were able to have an open and frank conversation, it was an honour. There was nothing negative about anything on the day and I enjoyed it so much that I didn’t want to leave. Everyone made us feel welcome and supported and truly valued. Well done again to all the team for all their hard work and for bringing everyone together, an amazing event!volunteer Andrea from Cambridge"
Linda, Cambridge

"The stand was really great. The general atmosphere on the day was buzzing which helped to give volunteers confidence. It was a really great concept and went really smoothly on the day."
Andrea, Cambridge

"The team was very friendly and everyone was included."
Rebecca, Harrow

Volunteer Nikki at Greenwich"A huge thank you for putting on these events. I’ve met some great people and the cause is one we all feel strongly about - you’ve brought a lot of people together and I’m forever grateful for that!"
Nikki, Greenwich and Harrow

"The atmosphere was very friendly and supportive. It was good to speak to so many people about mental health issues and hear about different experiences. It also made me think about how much stigma there still is around mental health. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to volunteer - I really enjoyed it!"
Layla, Durham

"I liked the fact that it was bright and colourful and that the message was bold and not timid or apologising for issues surrounding mental health. I believe the way forward is to make discrimminating against those with mental health issues a socially unacceptable course of behaviour and I think this was a good way to get the message across."
Anna, Norwich

"Many people came to the roadshow with a frown and after talking to us they left with a smile. I felt very humble but at the same time elated and would happily do it again. Well done everyone. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to participate in a worthwhile cause."
Christine, Derby

"It was good to know I was contributing in a small way to the bigger campaign to end stigma."
Chris, Woking
