Mind

Mind is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales. Its vision is of a society that promotes and protects good mental health for all, and that treats people with experience of mental distress fairly, positively and with respect.

The needs and experiences of people with mental distress drive its work and it makes sure their voices are heard by those who influence change.

Mind’s independence gives it the freedom to stand up and speak out on the real issues that affect daily lives.

It provides information and support, campaigns to improve policy and attitudes and, in partnership with nearly 200 independent local Mind associations, develops local services.

It does all this to make it possible for people who experience mental distress to live full lives and play their full part in society.

Mind’s involvement in Time to Change

Tackling the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health has always been a priority for Mind. It sees Time to Change as a tremendous opportunity, after years of striving to put these issues at the top of the mental health agenda.

Mind is committed to making the national and local projects a success, but also the whole of this vital and ground-breaking programme.

  • Get Moving annually brings people together for a week of mass-participation events, promoting the benefits of physical activity for mental wellbeing and breaking down stigma surrounding mental health.
  • Time to challenge will challenge discrimination against people who are suffering from mental health problems, by taking cases through the courts. These cases will concern points of law that have a public importance and a relevance to all service users. Through this focus Mind will help to establish a wider understanding that discrimination on the grounds of mental health is no longer acceptable.
  • 22 of the local community projects are run by local Mind organisations. The projects will involve people with mental health problems in a wide variety of physical activities, improving mental and physical wellbeing and breaking down the barriers caused by stigma.
